Encapsulation

Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing the placenta after birth, dehydrating it, and placing it into capsules for the mother to take during the postpartum period. The placenta is handled using food-safe preparation practices and carefully processed to create an easy-to-consume supplement.

Mothers who choose to encapsulate their placenta may experience better postpartum recovery, higher milk production, and increased energy.

At Sown Growth, we approach placenta encapsulation with professionalism, high sanitation standards, and a deep respect for the significance of the birth experience. Each placenta is handled individually, and returned promptly to the family.

The base package for encapsulation starts at $300 and includes:

Tincture

A placenta tincture is a liquid extract made by preserving a small portion of the placenta in high-proof alcohol. Over time, the alcohol draws out and stabilizes certain components of the placenta, creating a shelf-stable extract that can last for years.

Unlike capsules, which are typically taken during the immediate postpartum period, tinctures are often reserved for later use. Many mothers choose to keep their tincture on hand for times of hormonal transition, such as the return of menstruation, weaning, or potentially even into menopause

Tinctures can be a great way to prolong the placentas effects in postpartum care. Creating a placenta tincture typically takes 6 weeks from the start to finish and costs $45 as an add on service to placenta encapsulation or $60 on its own.

Salve

A placenta salve is a topical balm made by infusing a small portion of the placenta into a blend of oil and beeswax to create a skin-nourishing balm that can be used for postpartum skin care. A placenta salve can be especially nourishing to areas that feel tender or in need of gentle support after birth such as the abdomen.

A salve can be completed shortly after the encapsulation process and returned to the mother within a few days and costs $35 as an add on service to placenta encapsulation or $60 on its own.

Birthweight Bear

A birthweight bear is a stuffed and weighted bear typically made up of fabric taken from your baby's first several outfits once they have outgrown them. It is called a birthweight bear because it is weighted to your baby's weight at birth.

The feet or chest of the Birthweight bear can be custom embroidered with your baby's name and date of birth. If you would not like to use fabric from your baby's clothes, I can provide other fabrics to use.

Each Birthweight Bear is made with care and attention to ensure a precious keepsake reminiscent of early life with your baby. A Birthweight Bear may take several weeks to complete and cost $100 or $125 embroidered.
